- In six months, expertise businesses start going to zero
In six months, expertise businesses start going to zero
The 1% take 99%. Everyone else fights over scraps.
I used to DJ in Newcastle with a guy I'll call Deako.
Technically one of the best I've ever heard. Genuinely gifted.
He could play vinyl with one hand tied behind his back.
He didn't believe in social media. Wouldn't touch it. So nobody knew who he was.
He often said “don’t wanna touch any of that shite” in his strong Newcastle accent.
He played the same weekend slots for years at a club called Tokyo in the city.
A mate from the same scene went the other way. Leaned into social, built a following, became established. Ended up touring internationally.
His name is Man Power.
Same rooms. Same records.
One of them had the talent. The other had the audience and the talent.
Guess which one built the career.
I've watched that exact thing play out again and again. And it's about to happen to a lot of experts who think they're safe.
Here's my thesis.
Your expertise stopped being a moat the day AI could fake it.
What you know is everywhere now. AI can take your frameworks, recombine them, build the content calendar, write the how-to, and hand the whole lot to someone with a fraction of your experience.
What you know is everywhere. Who knows you is the scarce part.
Let me show you what made this land for me.
A few weeks ago I built the entire launch strategy for my Founders Accelerator cohort.
Start to finish. Emails, angles, the lot. I used Claude for most of it. No course, no programme.
And it worked. It pulled 10 inbound leads and $12k in closed rev pre launch.
Here's the uncomfortable part. The strategy wasn't special. Someone could copy it move for move and get nothing.
The only reason it worked is four years of showing up and 80,000 followers across platforms.
I had distribution. That's the whole edge.
Call it the “Distribution Moat”. It's the only one left.
And the game most experts are losing right now is the one I'd call the rise of the AI expert.
Less qualified people out-selling you every day. They have an audience and you don't.
That's the whole reason.
Now the stakes.
If you don't build distribution in the next six months, an expertise-based business trends towards zero.
The top 1% become the category leaders and take 99% of the income. Everyone else fights over scraps.
You'll get price-shopped harder.
You'll watch clients walk to someone less qualified with a bigger following.
Your margins get quietly eaten.
And if you're the most exposed, you probably won't see it coming.
You're experienced.
You've coasted on referrals for years. Comfortably doing 10 to 20k a month. You've had a couple of quiet patches lately and told yourself they were seasonal.
They weren't. They're the start.
The quiet patches get longer. Until one of them doesn't end.
The way out is the same one Deako never took.
Build the audience. Build the distribution. It's the only vehicle left to scale what you actually know.
Tomorrow I'll show you exactly what that takes now the feed is a sea of sameness.
The specific things that turn an expert nobody's heard of into the obvious choice.
